Westminster High School’s First-Ever Homecoming Carnival a Big Success

Westminster High School traded tradition for something new this year, and it paid off. The school’s first-ever Homecoming Carnival, held on Saturday, Sept. 27, drew hundreds of families and students for an afternoon of food, games, and school spirit. The lively event, created as a replacement for the traditional Homecoming Parade, turned into a celebration that brought the community together.

The idea, introduced by the WHS Student Council and led by Aiden Martin with support from advisor Jennifer Barnhart, was designed to maintain the excitement of Homecoming while giving students and families more interactive ways to join in.

“This was about bringing people together, and our students did exactly that,” Barnhart said after the event. “It was wonderful to see so many families having fun and connecting with our high school.”

Students hosted carnival-style booths and games, while cheerleaders and athletes led interactive activities for children. Guests received free activity tickets, with the option to purchase more. In keeping with this year’s Wizard of Oz theme, students from across the district dressed as their favorite characters.

On a hot, sunny day the dunk tank was a big hit.

Chartwell’s, the district’s food service partner, added to the carnival atmosphere with classic treats, while adults purchased food tickets at a nominal cost.

The carnival was just the start of an action-packed Homecoming week at WHS. Up next is the annual Powder Puff Football game on Wednesday, Oct. 1, at 6 pm, followed by the Homecoming Football Game on Friday, Oct. 3 at 7 pm.
